The Suicide of Saul

Pride is his power, dearest to his heart
Where anger lay waste to all things.
Many men have approached with eager mouths and minds.
Only to be struck down in disdain.

His homeland of Israel, bound by those of the book.
The holy land, where proud men stand, to watch it all
Turn to dust. Just like Saul at Mount Gilboa.

They came in waves. These Philistines,
Men of adulterous tastes and religion.
They anger Saul so, but still he must fight,
For fear of his destruction.

His men fought hard, his pride was not scarred.
The archers rained arrows upon Saul.
One by one, they pierce his soul, like insults
Against his religion.

He sees his path, he sees his men.
Knowledge of their suffering matters not
For he has pride as he falls on the blade

Of his armorbearer.
